Door and Window Alarms

Self Assessment
-I have an alarm on every window that opens in my home.
-I have an alarm on every external door in my home.

FBI statistics show that 79% of break-ins occur in either a door or window.
Locks delay entry.
Alarms detect entry.
Both are important, but alarms provide awareness.
Why Cameras Alone Are Not Enough
In both Deter, and earlier in Detect we discussed the importance of having motion security lighting and cameras.
Many homeowners think security cameras are enough.
Cameras are valuable, but they serve a different purpose.
Cameras are great for:
-Seeing what happened
-Recording evidence
-Identifying a suspect
But cameras often do not guarantee immediate awareness.
Many people:
-Don’t have motion alerts turned on
-Don’t notice alerts until later
-Don’t check cameras constantly
-Can become numb to the constant motion alerts, especially if there are a lot of family members coming and going
A door or window alarm is different.
It provides instant detection.
The moment a door or window opens:
-An alarm sounds inside the house
-Your phone receives a notification
-You know immediately something is wrong

In other words:
Cameras show you what happened.
Door and window alarms tell you the moment it happens.
The best home defense systems use both together.
Door and window alarm detects entry.
Camera shows what triggered the alarm.
Detection plus visibility is far more powerful than either system alone.

Why every home should have door & window alarms
- Most break-ins start with a door or window.
- They give instant detection
- Scare off bad guy
- Alert the homeowner with sound and phone notification
- You can have them set up to notify police
- They work even when you are sleeping
- They are very reliable
- Open sensor status – you can see from your phone whether your windows and doors are shut. We know the state of our home’s entry points at all times.
- Geofencing – If our iPhones leave the property it will automatically arm.
- Door chimes – Let’s say your kids or grandkids are over and you want to be notified if one of them opens a door. You can easily set it so there is an audible chime in the house, and your phone is notified.
Once we properly install and use door and window alarms we can potentially reduce up to 80% of break-ins.
